An escape room style, edge of your seat thriller
What is it about
Our main character, Kate Harding thinks she is going for a job interview, which ends up being more of an interrogation than an interview. Kate’s own past traumas catches up with her and various flashbacks reveal that there is more to the story.
Locked in the building floor with an elaborate security system, Kate finds herself in an escape room style situation and must rely on herself to find a way out without getting killed.
What I liked about it
There is a good psychological drama in the early part of the interview where Joel interrogates Kate. There is a real back and forth between the characters, who are figuring each other out. As readers, we are also trying to figure out who is what, and why Kate is being interrogated. I felt that the early part of the interview was perfectly paced and had me hooked on the pages.
When a simple interrogation turns out to be part of a much bigger, nefarious story of a corporation, who are doing some sort of cover up, the story takes a more sinister turn, which I liked. It explains how Kate was involved in this. However, this change of pace had divided the readers. Some welcomed this change of pace, while others were critical.
Even so, it will appeal to anybody who loves a good thriller.
